Little creatures

I have been watching the little creatures. It seems while we stay home they come out to play. Or do the birds just seem more plentiful and noisier? Are the bugs more busily crawling all over the place in the stillness of my life? Or does it catch my attention more?

Where do you find joy in the little things and creatures?

We remember

Today is the third anniversary of the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville that led to the deaths of Heather Heyer, and state police Jay Cullen and Berke Bates. It exposed racism as something that had always been here. How has our community changed as we revisit the trauma of that weekend?

How do you remember and mark this day? What have you learned about white supremacy in this country? Are you praying with your feet?

لبيروت (Li Beirut)

“A greeting from my heart to Beirut

kisses to the sea and to the houses

to a rock shaped like an old sailor’s face

She is wine from the people’s soul

She is bread and Jasmine from their sweat

So how does her taste become? A taste of fire and smoke…” Lebanese singer Fairuz

How do we mourn loss upon loss?

Clouds and fog,

drifting, settling

blanket like over the landscape,

wrapping the world

into a cocoon of God’s presence

We slow down and take one step at a time

as the path slowly reveals itself to us.

How does fog settle and unsettle you?

New landmarks

In times of disorientation we can no longer rely on old landmarks. We may be lost for a while. We may be stopped in our tracks. As we slow down we notice things we might have missed before.

What has been helpful in the past when disoriented? What new landmarks are emerging?

A table in the wilderness

Can God really spread a table in the wilderness? Even though God struck the rock so that waters gushed out and torrents overflowed, can God also give bread, or provide meat for his people? Psalm 78:19-20

Where do you find nourishment these days? Do you question God’s ability to provide?
