Advent Widening

“It came to me, recently, that faith is ‘a certain widening of the imagination.’ When Mary asked the angel, ‘How shall these things be?’ She was asking God to widen the imagination. All my life I’ve been requesting the same thing — a baptized imagination that has a wide enough faith to see the numinous in the ordinary. Without discarding reason, or analysis, I seek from my muse, the Holy Spirit, images that will open up reality and pull me in to the center.” ~ Lucy Shaw

How are you pulled in to the center?

Advent Peace

It is the Glad Season.
Thunder ebbs to silence and lightning sleeps quietly in the corner.
Flood waters recede into memory.
Snow becomes a yielding cushion to aid us
As we make our way to higher ground. ~ Maya Angelou, Amazing peace

Advent uneasing

“The process of growth is always uneasy, because growth never comes through ease. It comes through stretching and expanding of one’s own capacity… the unease is a strategy of the soul to protect you from all the things as usual that could harm this new life being grown in you.” ~ Scott Ericksen, Honest Advent

What unease might God use to stretch you into new life?

Advent horizon

“The season of Advent means there is something on the horizon the likes of which we have never seen before. So stay. Sit. Linger. Tarry. Ponder. Wait. Behold. Wonder. There will be time enough for running.” ~ Jan Richardson

Advent womb

“A novice master once responded when asked about a life lived in Christian authenticity, that to be a Christian was not to know the answers but to begin to live in the part of the self where the question is born.…He was speaking of an attitude of listening, of awareness of presence, of an openness to mystery.” ~ Wendy Wright, A book of Christmas

What question is being born within you?

Clarity

“Your vision will become clear only when you look into your own heart. [The one] who looks outside dreams. [The one] who looks inside awakes.” ~ Marc Chagall (1887-1985)

What are your dreams? What are your awakenings?
