Rough waters

When life appears like a churning river that constantly beats against us with the power of its current, it is hard not to be worn down or out. It takes the sturdiness of a rock.

What keeps you from getting worn down?

Quilting

Take, cut, sew, turn…take, cut, sew, turn…take, cut, sew, turn… There is something very soothing and centering about quilting. Sewing one strip to the next and square by square, strip by strip the beauty emerges.

What hands on activity centers you?

Cum panis

When the journey seems endless, we need sustenance. This can take many forms and during this pandemic requires ingenuity. Companion comes from “cum panis”, with bread. We are nourished as we break bread together.

What feeds you on your journey? How do you nurture one another?

Lift every voice and sing

Give us a song to guide our feet as we are marching to freedom land. ~ Common Prayer

“Jazz speaks for life, the blues tell the story of life’s difficulties — and, if you think for a moment, you realize that they take the hardest realities of life and put them into music, only to come out with some new hope or sense of triumph.” Martin Luther King Jr., Berlin Jazz Festival 1964

What song guides you?

Well water

In desert times we need to know where to find water, which rock to strike for it to pour forth, where to dig deep, or when to wait for the rain to come.

How do you dip into the well?

Celebrate

When the journey seems long and never ending, when it’s hard to see any light at the end of the tunnel, when it feels overwhelming to keep ones footing, then we need to pay attention to the glimpses of joy.

How do you stay playful and celebrate on this journey?
